Green Arrow #10: Murder on the Empire Express Review
“MURDER ON THE EMPIRE EXPRESS” part one! Queen Industries’ new Trans-Pacific Railway is an undersea vehicle that symbolizes world peace—which makes its maiden voyage the perfect place for the Ninth Circle to stage a high-profile assassination. Luckily, Green Arrow, Black Canary and John Diggle are on board as outlaw stowaways!
This is part one of a two-part story arc, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that this story is irrelevant. This book takes place on a secret underwater bullet train that only the elite know about. Green Arrow and his team get themselves on this train because it’s the only way to get off the island that they have been stuck on for the past couple of issues; they need to get back to Seattle before a big shipment of drugs makes it there.
I love all the throwbacks to the old Green Arrow series that has been going on in this title. When I saw Eddie Fyers, I had an actual physical reaction; he’s one of my favorite side characters in the original run of Green Arrow. Adding to the feel good moments of nostalgia, the blending of action and comedy is also really well done in this issue.
Juan Ferreyra has done another fantastic job on this issue;.the panel layout is unique and a lot of fun. His coloring also really pulls everything together.
I can’t say enough on how much I’ve been loving this series since rebirth started. With all the hints and nods to the classic characters from series past, I’m extremely excited for the future of this series—and I can’t wait to see what that might be.
I’m giving this issue of green arrow:
