A rowdy action-packed slugfest!
If you’re looking for a comic that involves secret government organizations and the crazy missions they send their super team on, this series is for you. The mission the super team (known as The Command Headquarters of Espionage and Strategic Strikes or C.H.E.S.S. for short) gets sent on in this issue involves an evil weapons-making businessman. You know, your wild black market type of guy.
The story in this issue is pretty good and the action is done very well. The only real concern I had with this first issue was that you don’t really get to learn too much about the characters who make up the group. But again, it’s only the first issue. So hopefully we’ll get to dive deeper into their history and what they’re about as the series moves forward. I’m definitely interested to see where the story goes from here.
The art in this series is pretty solid and has some excellent character designs. This becomes really clear in the action scenes. And as the series progresses, I hope we get many more of these awesome action scenes. The book is highly entertaining and has an almost G.I. Joe type of feel to it. Well, if you cranked G.I. Joe up to 11, that is.
Other than wanting to know a little bit more about some of the characters involved, I thought the comic was pretty good. And there’s definitely a lot more to this story that’s going to be told in future issues. Perhaps at another juncture in time I’ll get the opportunity to review the series as a whole. I think this is the kind of comic that would get a higher rating when based on an entire story arc. Even so…
I’m giving C.H.E.S.S #1…
