“Truly a one of a kind comic!”

Meet NICK SAX – a corrupt, intoxicated ex-cop turned hit-man, adrift in a stinking twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex, eczema and betrayal. With a hit gone wrong, a bullet in his side, the cops and the mob on his tail, and a monstrous child killer in a Santa suit on the loose, Nick and his world will be changed forever this Christmas—by a tiny blue horse called Happy.

happy-patton-head.jpgA gritty, crime, black comedy story. When Nick Sax, an ex-cop turned hit-man, ends up on the wrong end of a job gone bad, he finds himself hunted by both cops and the mob alike. During all of this he’s also trying to find a child killer in a Santa outfit—with help from a little blue horse. Yep, sounds like a Grant Morrison story to me.

If you’re a Grant Morrison fan, there’s a good chance you’ll want to check out this book. It’s a fun story that takes a ridiculous idea and grounds it with some realism without losing what made that idea so cool to begin with. And it’s so far out there in a way I couldn’t picture anybody else but Mr. Morrison writing this story.

Artist Darick Robertson uses a realistic and grounded style on this book. You might worry at first that the realistic art style will clash with what can be considered an over the top story, but there is no need to concern yourself about that; the art and story mix together in a very weird way which really highlights the book. And anyone that is familiar with his previous work probably isn’t surprised about this.

So, if you haven’t checked out HAPPY! go pick it up. And if you already have, you should give it another read. Now is the perfect time with the first couple episodes of The TV adaptation already having aired. Read the graphic novel so you know what you getting yourself into.

I give HAPPY!…
