Rejected

By Caleb James K.

Dozens of stories
essays and a poem
all rejected before
getting a chance at a home.

No one reads them
or even cares these days
that you put heart and soul
and blood on each page.

No matter how hard
you work for perfection
you’ll lose
and face that rejection.

Of never making it unless
you already have a name
to hang your hat on
when you play this game.

Because all they care about
is if the name’s respected
and without the recognition
prepare to get rejected.
