“A monstrous good time!”

The twisted brain child of George Michail and Chris Cam, Cover of Darkness features eerie art by the uncanny MJ Hiblen. Set in medieval Romania, when a family is separated from each other they will encounter horrific villains and creatures they never knew existed. An epic journey where gorillas fight werewolves and a steampunk, Atlantean Frankenstein topples cities.

Would you like to hear a tale of a family that gets separated and then finds each other during medieval times set in Romania? Oh, did I forget to mention that they have to go through every kind of monster you could ever imagine to do so?

When a gypsy family gets caught trying to scam a customer, things turn bad. Real bad. The situation escalates expeditiously, causing the family to get separated and each of them to fall into their own set of problems. And this family is wild in the best ways. There is a kickass gypsy warrior aunt who has two daughters and two brothers who are able to turn into animals. Like I said, wild stuff.

As the story progresses, we get flashes of all these monsters that I’m sure will cause them grief in future issues: vampires, werewolves, Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, and to top it all off, we get the Creature from the Black Lagoon. These awesome monsters get their own side stories in each issue which highlights their origins. I really like the way they put a twist on all of these classic creatures.

The art for this series is all done digitally and it’s pretty good. It does a great job of illustrating all of the different monsters and creatures that are within the pages of the comic. All of the gore is done very well and looks pretty cool as well.

I highly recommend checking this series out if you get the chance, especially if you’re a fan of monsters and things that go bump in the night. With four issues out at the time of this review—and with more to come—there seems to be a lot more story to tell.
